Alun Michael chair of APPG on Voluntary Sector

Alun Michael MP has been elected as chair of the influential All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on the Community and Voluntary Sector.

Taking over from Tom Levitt MP, who stepped down at the general election, Michael paid tribute to the former chair’s stewardship of the group and pledged to continue his good work in raising the profile of the issues affecting the voluntary sector in Parliament.

Michael said: “Voluntary and community organisations are at the forefront of the political agenda and face a number of unprecedented challenges. I look forward to working with colleagues across the political spectrum to throw a spotlight on the key issues affecting the sector.

"I’m delighted that we were able to welcome new MPs from the Conservative, Liberal-Democrat and Labour Parties who attended the first meeting of the new Parliament. I am encouraged to think that we will have a significant influx of new members to the group.”
